Keep Your Home Warm as Temperatures Outside Continue to Drop

1 min read

Large home with off-white siding covered with snowWe don’t know about you, but here at Window World of Long Island it feels like the never-ending winter. In fact, Newsday reported that “in the first 23 days of February there was an inch or more of snow on the ground at Long Island MacArthur Airport.”

As temperatures outside continue to drop and snow lingers on the ground, it seems that the only successful way to seek refuge from this winter freeze, is to stay tucked snugly inside your home.

However, if your home isn’t properly prepared for extreme weather, you may find yourself chilly even in the comfort of your own home. If you find yourself cold, even inside, Window World of Long Island has a few tips for keeping your home warm throughout the winter!

3 Tips for Staying Warm in Your Long Island Home

  1. Switch up your fans and wrap up your water heater. These may sound like very simple fixes, but these two small things can save you nearly 16-20% in energy costs. Running your ceiling fan in the opposite direction may help circulate warm air throughout your space, while using a water heater blanket around your hot water tank will keep your water heater at a toasty 120 degrees. Not only will you stay warm, you may also save money!
  2. Seal any source of outside air. Are you finding that the dramatic temperature changes have caused cracks in your entry doors, or a gap between your window and the surrounding wall? Temporarily fix the issue by caulking around your door or window to prevent unwanted air from seeping in. And, if you feel a draft from under the door place a rug or rolled up towel in front of it.
  3. Replace your windows with energy efficient windows. Are your windows or doors outdated and drafty? It’s time to consider installing energy efficient replacement windows and properly-insulated doors. Replacing old windows and doors with energy-efficient options can help you save a significant amount on your energy bill, and maintain constant temperatures in your home. And, with Window World of Long Island’s cold weather installation, we can go ahead and get them installed to warm up your home as quickly as possible.
